Fionn Mitts

$6.00

These delightful mitts feature an easy-to-work knot stitch pattern on the backs, making them not only stylish but also an enjoyable project for knitters of all skill levels. They are crafted using Wonderfluff, a luxurious yarn from Knit Picks, which is created by blowing alpaca and merino fibers into a soft mesh tube for an incredibly fluffy texture. This innovative technology ensures warmth and comfort in every stitch. If you don’t have any Wonderfluff on hand, you can substitute it with any yarn you prefer, as long as it meets the gauge requirements.

Skills Needed: This project requires a few fundamental knitting skills, including the long-tail cast on, backwards loop cast on, knitting in the round, basic increases and decreases, picking up stitches, and knitting with double-pointed needles. These skills will help you create a beautiful pair of mitts that are perfect for keeping your hands warm during chilly days.

Sizes: This pattern is available in two sizes: Women’s smaller and Women’s larger. The finished measurements for the palm circumference, unstretched, are 7.25 inches (18.5 cm) for the smaller size and 8 inches (20 cm) for the larger size. The arm length from the wrist to the beginning of the thumb is 7 inches (18 cm) for both sizes. This helps ensure a snug yet comfortable fit for various hand sizes.

Yarn: For this project, we recommend using Knit Picks Wonderfluff, which consists of 70% Alpaca, 23% Nylon, and 7% Merino. Each skein contains 142 yards (130 meters) and weighs 50 g. You will need either 1 skein for the smaller size or 2 skeins for the larger size, totaling about 145-165 yards of worsted, aran, or bulky weight yarn that meets the gauge specifications. It's worth noting that for the smaller size, I used nearly every inch of one skein of Wonderfluff, so be sure to have an extra skein on hand just in case!

Whether you're making these mitten-style gloves for yourself or as a thoughtful gift, they are sure to become a cherished accessory for those cold winter days. Embark on this knitting adventure and enjoy the process of creating your very own pair of knot stitch mitts!
