Greenbrier

When I decided to create a versatile unisex neckwear accessory suitable for all ages, the first concept that sparked my imagination was cables. However, the idea of knitting them into a conventional, monotonous scarf shape didn’t excite me. Thus, the unique and stylish Greenbrier asymmetrical shawl was born! Crafted from one point outward, this stunning shawl features a beautifully repeating cable motif, elegantly trimmed with a modified garter stitch pattern along the opposite edge. To finish it off, the project is adorned with a delightful picot bind-off that adds a touch of whimsy.

Traditional shawls can be impractical for active individuals, particularly young children, as they tend to slip off and get misplaced easily. To address this, I’ve designed a stay-put cowl version of the Greenbrier as well. The Greenbrier cowl showcases the same intricate cable motif, and it is worked flat before being seamed, ensuring that the cables wrap around the neck in a cozy, horizontal fashion. This construction method allows you to customize the cowl to your desired circumference for the perfect fit. To complete the look, pick up and work the same appealing modified garter stitch along both the top and bottom edges.

NOTE: All cable motifs are charted only. This pattern is perfect for knitters who love working with cables and want to create a modern accessory that can be cherished by anyone, regardless of age or gender. Whether you choose to knit the shawl or the cowl, the Greenbrier design promises to bring a chic flair to any wardrobe while offering warmth and comfort.
