Henry Tudor

Anyone who's watched The Tudors or has a basic grasp of English history will likely understand my initial wariness when my husband quoted Henry VIII as an inspiration for a project. Fortunately, he referenced Henry not in terms of marital matters, but rather for his remarkable taste in Celtic decorations. This intricate knotwork pattern, inspired by a famous portrait of King Henry Tudor (not my husband), serves as the foundation for this unique sweater design.

This stunning sweater is crafted to challenge knitters, incorporating lesser-known cable techniques that add depth and intrigue to your work. Featuring a classic raglan shape, the design includes an innovative twist: the left raglan seam is intentionally left open and fastened with stylish leather buckles. If you prefer a more traditional look, you can easily modify the pattern to create a standard raglan sweater by simply sewing the seam up to the collar and omitting the buckles.

The yarn selection for this project is equally important. I chose Pur Merinos Français from Bergere de France, a luxurious and ethically sourced French merino wool that boasts a beautifully matte finish. This yarn not only feels exquisite but also enhances the intricate cables and textured stitches of the sweater. With an array of delicious earthy colors available, you can personalize the sweater to match your unique style and preferences.

By following this pattern, you'll create a standout piece that reflects historical elegance while showcasing your knitting skills. Whether you’re an experienced knitter looking to expand your repertoire or a passionate beginner eager to tackle a new challenge, this sweater design offers a rewarding experience that you won't want to miss. Dive into the world of knitting and embrace the art of cable techniques with this fashionable project!

The combination of unique buckles and the rich yarn will not only elevate your wardrobe but will also provide you with a fulfilling knitting journey. Make sure to grab your supplies and get ready to knit a garment that’s sure to impress!
