Introducing the Meriadoc Brandybuck-inspired sock pattern, celebrating the beloved hobbit from the Shire who became a Squire of Rohan and a cherished member of the Fellowship as they departed from Rivendell in J.R.R. Tolkien’s iconic *The Fellowship of the Ring*. This delightful sock design captures the spirit and adventure of the character, making it a must-have project for knitting enthusiasts and fans of Middle-earth alike.
This knitting pattern has undergone extensive testing and proofreading with the help of a talented team of testers, to whom I owe a great deal of gratitude! A heartful thank you to everyone who contributed to perfecting this pattern.
Skill Level: Intermediate. This pattern assumes that you have basic knowledge of top-down sock construction, cabling techniques, yarn overs, decreases, and, importantly, chart reading— which plays a crucial role in this design!
Materials Needed: To create your own Meriadoc Brandybuck socks, you will need 1 set of US1.5 double-pointed needles (or the size necessary to achieve the specified gauge). Some of my testers successfully used the Magic Loop method and stitch markers, so feel free to adapt as needed. Additionally, you will require a cable needle (or the ability to cable without one—strongly recommended for ease!), a tapestry needle for weaving in ends, scissors for cutting yarn, and a measuring tape for accurate sizing.
Yarn Requirements: Approximately 400 yards of fingering weight yarn is required for this pattern. I personally used Nuna and found that 3 skeins were sufficient to complete the size large sock. Choose your favorite colorway to make these socks uniquely yours!
Ease and Fit: This sock design features very slightly negative ease, providing a snug yet stretchy fit that will keep your feet comfortable and cozy.
Available Sizes & Measurements: The pattern is designed for two sizes: Small (which accommodates 64 stitches) and Large (for 72 stitches). Choose the size that best fits your style and foot measurements, and enjoy the satisfaction of crafting a truly magical pair of socks!
