Tension
For best results, aim for a tension of 20 stitches and 30 rounds of stocking stitch to create a 10cm (4in) square using 4.5mm needles. To achieve a cozy, thick fabric, this pattern recommends using slightly smaller than usual needles, ensuring your mittens feel snug and warm against the cold.
Sizes
This pattern is designed to fit a hand circumference at the knuckles of 17-18 cm (6¾-7 in) or 19-20 cm (7½-8 in). The actual circumference at the knuckles measures 18 cm (7 in) or 20 cm (8 in), providing a comfortable fit. The total length of these mittens is 23 cm (9 in), with a cuff length of 10 cm (4 in) that can easily be shortened if you prefer a different style.
Yarn Recommendation
For optimal results, choose an aran or worsted weight plied wool yarn. Our sample was crafted using West Yorkshire Spinners Blue Faced Leicester Aran (aran weight; 100% wool; 83m/91yds per 50g/1.75oz ball, hand wash only). For this project, you will need 2 balls of yarn in the delightful shade, Coral (524).
