Praying Hands Illusion - knitting pattern

Praying Hands Illusion

$6.23

This stunning knitting pattern is inspired by the renowned drawing by Albrecht Dürer, famously known as The Praying Hands, or alternatively, Hands of the Apostle. Created nearly five hundred years ago, the original drawing served as a preparatory sketch for an altarpiece that tragically succumbed to a fire. The artwork was rendered on blue paper, which is why I chose a rich blue for the shawl in this pattern.

The iconic image has often been reproduced as an engraving, hence my choice of shimmering copper colors for the beautiful wall-hanging. These choices not only pay homage to Dürer's work but also bring a touch of elegance to your home décor.

The knitting versions displayed in the accompanying photos were crafted using Double Knitting (DK) yarns. While you can experiment with other yarn types, please note that this will affect the overall dimensions of the finished pieces. The shawl measures approximately 140 cm (56”) in width and 70 cm (28”) in depth, not including the intricate edging. Meanwhile, the wall-hanging is about 48 cm (19”) wide and 70 cm (28”) tall, making it a striking centerpiece for any wall.

One of the standout features of this pattern is how the shawl is designed to be hung on the wall. It is securely fastened to a long wooden rod fitted with Velcro, allowing for easy removal whenever necessary. This unique method not only enhances the visual impact of the shawl but also offers practicality for storage and display. Create your own stunning representation of Dürer's masterpiece with this knitting pattern and showcase your artistry and appreciation for classic art today!
