Sunrise Over Bryce
In June 2017, Indie Untangled launched an inspiring project titled “Knitting Our National Parks,” where independent yarn dyers create beautiful yarn colors inspired by stunning photographs from the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Instagram feed. With each sale, ten percent of the proceeds are donated to the National Park Foundation, contributing to the preservation of our natural treasures. One of the standout creations from this initiative is “Hoodoos” by Into The Whirled, a vibrant colorway inspired by a breathtaking photo of the sun rising over Thor’s Hammer in Bryce Canyon National Park. To truly showcase the yarn's exquisite color and unique character, I designed a minimalistic shawl featuring an all-over texture paired with simple lace elements.
This eye-catching shawl is designed as an asymmetric triangle, incorporating a delightful garter rib pattern intermingled with easy yet effective lace stitches. The thoughtful design culminates with a charming picot bind-off, enhancing the visual appeal. The combination of these simplistic stitches not only adds elegance but also ensures that the shawl is fully reversible, making it a versatile accessory for any attire.
Gauge: 28 stitches and 46 rows = 4 inches in Garter Rib Pattern on US 5 needles.
Yarn: This shawl is crafted using two skeins of Into The Whirled Shokan Singles in the magnificent colorway “Hoodoos,” perfectly capturing the essence of Bryce Canyon’s natural beauty.
Finished Size: The completed shawl measures 21" by 84", making it the ideal size for draping over your shoulders or wrapping around your neck for warmth on cool evenings.
Whether you're an experienced knitter or just starting out, this pattern is a wonderful way to practice your skills while creating a stunning piece that honors America's national parks. Join in on the knitting movement and craft your own unique shawl while supporting a great cause!
