Voorpret Shawl
For all knitting enthusiasts, the term "Voorpret" is a delightful Dutch word that captures the essence of the anticipation and joy experienced before an exciting event. I created the Voorpret Shawl with this spirit in mind, just before commencing a one-year international adventure with my family of four. This design encapsulates the excitement and optimism surrounding our forthcoming journeys, making it a perfect project for knitters looking to infuse their work with personal meaning.
Measurements: Wingspan: 61” / 155cm | Depth: 33” / 84cm
Yarn: This shawl requires fingering weight or 4-ply yarn. You will need 420 yards / 384 meters each of the Main Color (MC) and the Contrasting Color (CC). A well-balanced combination of colors will enhance this stylish accessory.
The sample shawl was beautifully crafted using Shalimar Yarns Breathless, composed of 75% Merino wool, 15% Cashmere goat, and 10% Silk (420 yards / 100g). In this instance, the Main Color is Juniper Berry and the Contrasting Color is Neptune, creating a stunning visual contrast.
Needles: To complete this project, you'll need a set of US 5 / 3.75mm circular needles, ideally 32-40” / 80-100cm in length to accommodate the number of stitches required (as the shawl is worked flat). Feel free to use larger or smaller needles if necessary to achieve the desired gauge.
Notions: Essential tools for this project include a tapestry needle for weaving in ends and blocking supplies to enhance the final shape and drape of your shawl.
Gauge: Achieve a gauge of 20 stitches x 32 rows = 4” in garter stitch, blocked. While perfect gauge isn't critical for this project, variations may impact the amount of yarn required and the final dimensions of your shawl.
Important Note: This lovely triangular shawl is knitted on the bias with a centered bottom tip, giving it a unique and elegant appearance that is sure to turn heads.
