Zig and Zag
Fingerless mittens are the perfect accessory for the transition seasons of spring and autumn. These stylish fingerless gloves are not only functional but also a delight to knit. Featuring a quick and easy construction, this pattern includes a charming zig zag cable design complemented by a purl panel, making them a lovely addition to your seasonal wardrobe.
Yarn Requirements: You will need approximately 140 m / 155 yds of double knitting (DK) yarn to complete this project. Choosing the right yarn is essential for achieving the best results.
Note: I crafted my mittens using Sublime Cashmere Merino Silk DK yarn. I was able to squeeze out both mittens from a single 50g ball, but be mindful that the yarn requirements mentioned allow for some contingencies. If you opt for a 100% merino yarn instead, you may need a second ball to ensure you have enough material. Always check the meterage on your ball band carefully before beginning your project. This pattern is versatile and suitable for any DK weight yarn that meets the correct tension and gauge for a cozy fit.
Techniques Used: This fingerless mitten pattern incorporates a variety of knitting techniques, including knit and purl stitches, a simple cable, increases and decreases, and knitting in the round. These techniques help develop your knitting skills while producing an attractive finished product.
Whether you're knitting for yourself or creating a thoughtful gift for a friend, these fingerless mittens will keep your hands warm while allowing for dexterity. Perfect for browsing your phone, sipping a warm beverage, or enjoying outdoor activities during brisk days, this pattern is a must-try for knitters of all levels!
